The drama society's shenanigans began as usual in october. the enthusiastic recruitment campaign at the wolfson freshers' fair meant we had large numbers of people for the improvisations, and even more people regularly getting `spammed' with email invitations to our sunday evening sessions. most of the michaelmas term was spent doing improvisations and playing short theatre games, many shamelessly stolen from the television show `whose line is it anyway?'. the purpose of these antics contrary to popular belief ; , was not to scare the living daylights out of the uninitiated. rather, it was hoped that getting people on stage, would help them feel comfortable about acting, improvising, or at least make them less embarrassed about doing silly things in front of others. as a fringe benefit, it afforded an opportunity to indulge in such joyous if seemingly pointless ; activities as acting out a scene in the style of an adverb of your choice, which provides a crucial lesson in grammar, and allows you to enjoy the surreal experience of watching three people act out a scene from a science fiction movie, in the style of `patronisingly', while one unlucky and unknowing member has to guess the adverb. towards the end of the michaelmas term, we also began to consider different options for the play, which would be our tour-de-force at the end of the lent term. after some debate and trying out different bits of various plays, we ended up with neil simon's "the odd couple". the comedy, which was directed by mahesh and holdem poker.
